To start streaming on Kick, sign up at kick.com, turn on two-factor authentication, copy the stream URL and key from your creator dashboard and paste them into OBS using the Custom service. Set a title and category before you go live, otherwise the stream may not start. The whole setup takes 15–20 minutes, and subscriptions unlock after your first 5 hours of streaming.
How do you sign up for Kick and set up your channel?
- Go to kick.com, click Sign Up, enter your email, username, password and date of birth, then confirm your email.
- Enable two-factor authentication at kick.com/settings/security with Google Authenticator or a similar app. Without 2FA you cannot, for example, change your username.
- Complete your profile: avatar, banner, About section and social links. You will need them later for verification and the Partner Program.
According to public sources, you can create an account from age 13 (16 in the EU), and minors need parental consent. Payouts require an identity check through Kick's payment partner, so use your real details from day one.
The hardest part of starting out is the empty chat: few people click into a stream showing zero viewers. To keep your first minutes from looking abandoned, you can add viewers to your Kick stream from $0.24 per 1000 for a one-hour broadcast, starting at 10 viewers, with no password required.
Where do you find your Kick stream key?
- Open your creator dashboard at dashboard.kick.com.
- Go to Channel → Stream URL and Key.
- Copy the Stream URL and the Stream Key.
Treat the key like a password. Never show it on screen or paste it into chats. If it leaks, click Reset and paste the new key into OBS.
What OBS settings does Kick need?
In OBS, open File → Settings → Stream, choose the Custom service and paste the server URL and key. Then set the Output tab to the values Kick's help center recommends:
- Encoder: x264, NVIDIA NVENC H.264 or AMD H.264. H.264 only, Kick does not accept H.265/HEVC.
- Rate control: CBR. VBR is not supported.
- Bitrate: 1000–8000 kbps, always below your upload speed.
- Resolution and frame rate: up to 1920×1080 at up to 60 fps.
- Keyframe interval: 2 seconds.
- Audio: stereo, up to 48 kHz.
If the stream stutters, lower the bitrate in 1000 kbps steps or pick a lighter preset. Streamlabs Desktop is simpler still: click Connect next to Kick in the stream settings and authorize in your browser.
How do you run your first Kick stream? A checklist
- In the dashboard, click Edit Stream Info, set the title and category and save.
- Record 2–3 minutes locally in OBS and check your audio: your voice should sit above the game.
- Appoint a moderator and pin your chat rules.
- Click Start Streaming in OBS and open your channel on your phone to see what viewers see.
- Stream for 2–3 hours: a short broadcast does not have time to pick up viewers from the category.
When you stop, the VOD is saved to your channel page. Once you reach 5 hours of streaming within 30 days, Kick lets you enable subscriptions. For the money side, read how much Kick pays streamers.
Why won't my Kick stream start, or why does it lag?
- No title or category has been set.
- OBS is using VBR instead of CBR.
- The H.265/HEVC codec is selected instead of H.264.
- The bitrate is higher than your real upload speed.
- You reset the key, but OBS still has the old one.
What should you do after your first stream?
Set a schedule and stick to it, cut clips for TikTok and Shorts, and build a community. Our guide on how to create a Discord server covers that step.
