Zero views on a new TikTok video usually means it's still under review or hasn't been approved for the For You feed. Moderation normally takes minutes, sometimes a few hours. If the zero sticks around longer, check your account status, visibility settings, music and whether a VPN is changing your region.
Why does a new TikTok video have 0 views?
There are two different situations. If views were there and slowly declined, that's a separate problem covered in why TikTok views dropped. Here we deal with a fresh video sitting at zero from the moment it was posted. The main causes:
- the video is still going through automated review;
- it has been marked ineligible for the For You feed;
- your account has violations and restrictions;
- music rights issues or unoriginal content;
- privacy settings, a VPN or an app glitch is hiding it.
Once review is done and there are no restrictions but the video starts slowly, you can add first views on our TikTok views page — from $0.14 per 1,000, including a plan with 60% retention, no password needed. But if the video is under review or excluded from recommendations, fix the cause first: views won't lift a restriction.
How long does TikTok video review take?
Every video goes through automated moderation. While it runs, the video shows an Under review status and is barely shown to anyone. Normally that takes from a few minutes to an hour. It takes longer if the system sends the video to a human moderator or TikTok is having problems: in late January 2026, for example, creators widely reported videos stuck in review for hours with zero views. If the status hasn't changed after a day, move on to checking your account.
How to check whether your account is restricted
- Open Settings and privacy → Account → Account status (in most app versions). It lists violations and restricted features.
- Check your inbox notifications: TikTok reports removed videos and violations in system messages.
- Open the video's analytics in TikTok Studio: if it's ineligible for For You, you'll usually see a notice with an option to appeal.
If there are no formal violations but zeros repeat across several videos in a row, look through the signs of hidden restrictions in TikTok shadowban explained.
Can music or reused content kill your views?
- Music copyright. A track added in a third-party editor may be muted and the video restricted. Sounds from TikTok's own library are safer.
- Unoriginal content. Reuploads, movie clips and videos without your own editing often don't make it into recommendations.
- Other platforms' watermarks — editor and social network logos lower your chances of distribution.
Do VPNs, region and a new account matter?
- VPN. Posting through a VPN with a frequently changing IP can push the video to the wrong audience, and suspicious activity may trigger extra checks. For stable results, turn the VPN off before posting.
- New account. The algorithm tests a fresh profile's first videos on small groups, so a few dozen views is normal. Mass following and spam in the first days look like bot behaviour.
- Age and privacy. Content from accounts under 16 isn't shown in For You. Also check that your account isn't private and the video isn't set to Only me or Friends.
What to do if your video is stuck at 0 views
- Wait 1–2 hours and don't edit the video while it's being reviewed.
- Update the app and clear the cache: sometimes views exist but the counter hasn't refreshed.
- Check the video's visibility and your account status.
- If the video was restricted by mistake, appeal from the notification or analytics.
- Don't delete and reupload the same video several times — duplicates only make things worse.
- If nothing helps, contact support via Settings → Report a problem.
When nothing is blocking the video, early activity helps it get going: views, likes and saves are available in our TikTok growth services. Reaching For You still depends on how real viewers respond, so keep an eye on retention in your analytics.
