Yesterday your clips were collecting thousands of views, and today they barely reach a hundred: a familiar situation. A drop in reach is almost never random, and it usually has concrete causes. Here are the nine most common ones and a two-week recovery plan.
Diagnose first
Open your profile analytics and compare the last 28 days with the previous period. Look at three things: did views drop on all videos or only some, did the traffic sources change (recommendations, followers, search), and how is average watch time behaving. If one video dipped, the problem is in that video. If all of them dipped, the cause is the account or a change in your delivery.
9 reasons views drop
- 1. Weak retention. A long intro, no hook in the first seconds, a dragging middle. The algorithm looks at whether people finish videos and shows such clips to fewer people.
- 2. The video cannot be found in search. There are no keywords in the speech, on-screen text and caption. Search has become a noticeable source of views, and a clip without a clear topic loses that part of reach.
- 3. Account restrictions. Community guideline or copyright violations can reduce distribution in recommendations. Check your notifications and the account status section.
- 4. Unoriginal content. Re-uploads of other people's clips, videos with other platforms' watermarks, trend copies without changes.
- 5. A blurry niche. When a channel mixes cooking, jokes and ads, the system does not understand who to show you to.
- 6. Low-quality boosting. Bots and empty accounts do not finish videos or react to content. Retention falls and the algorithm cuts distribution. If you use promotion, choose gradual delivery and real accounts.
- 7. A poor posting rhythm. A pause of several weeks breaks the audience's habit, while several weak clips a day overload it.
- 8. Seasonality and competition. During holidays and big sales the feed is crowded and familiar formats go stale.
- 9. Technical causes. Poor picture and sound quality, a wrong frame format, music that is unavailable for your account type.
A 14-day recovery plan
- Days 1-2: check the account for restrictions and remove questionable clips.
- Days 3-5: rewrite the hooks of your five best ideas and add keywords to speech, text and caption.
- Days 6-10: post one video a day on one topic and record the results.
- Days 11-14: compare retention and repeat what worked best.
Do not delete old videos because of poor views and do not post one clip five times: it only makes the problem worse.
When to contact support
If views dropped sharply, the account is getting warnings or its features are limited, start with TikTok support and a check for possible violations. Everything else you can diagnose yourself from analytics.
