To add Kick chat to OBS, copy the popout chat link, https://kick.com/popout/your_name/chat, and add it to OBS as a Browser Source of roughly 400×600 pixels. To make the chat sit on top of your game without a dark box behind it, put a transparent-background rule into the Custom CSS field. If you want a styled overlay, use a ready-made chat widget from Streamlabs, BotRix or KickBot.
Where to find your Kick chat link (popout chat)
- The fastest way is to build the link yourself: https://kick.com/popout/YOUR_NAME/chat. Take the name from your channel URL (kick.com/your_name). Kick's help center uses this exact format in its OBS chat guide (updated October 2026).
- From the interface: open your channel, click the settings gear in the chat panel, choose Popout chat and copy the address of the new window.
- Test the link in a normal browser first: it should open the channel chat without the video player.
On-screen chat only keeps people watching when someone is actually talking. An empty box with a single "hi" does the opposite. To get early streams moving, the Kick viewers and AI chat page offers live viewers from $0.06 per 1000 (15 minutes of stream) and an AI chat that posts on-topic messages for $20 per 1000, with no password required. Kick's rules prohibit artificial activity, so keep the numbers in line with your channel size and talk to your real viewers too.
How to add Kick chat to OBS as a Browser Source
- In the Sources panel click + → Browser and name it, for example "Kick chat".
- Paste the popout link into the URL field.
- Set width and height: for a 1920×1080 scene, 400×600 works well.
- Click OK and drag the chat into a corner away from your webcam and the game HUD. Hold Alt and drag the edges to crop anything extra.
- If a cookie banner covers the chat, right-click the source → Interact and close it.
If you only want to read chat while live, without showing it on stream, use a dock: Docks → Custom Browser Docks, paste the same link and click Apply. According to Kick's help center, you can't type from that dock, and the Disconnected label just means you aren't logged in there. New messages still come through.
How to make the Kick chat background transparent in OBS
The popout chat has a dark background. Open the source properties and replace the Custom CSS field with:
* { background: transparent !important; } body { margin: 0; overflow: hidden; } * { text-shadow: 1px 1px 2px #000; }
The universal selector is more reliable than targeting class names: Kick changes its markup from time to time, and class-based rules stop working. The text shadow keeps messages readable over bright parts of the game. It's easier to crop the message input box at the bottom with Alt than to hide it with CSS.
Chat overlays for Kick: Streamlabs, BotRix, KickBot, TikFinity
- Streamlabs Chat Box lists Kick among supported platforms alongside Twitch, YouTube, Facebook and X. When you multistream, it merges messages into one box.
- BotRix is a bot built for Kick: you add it as a moderator, link your channel with a code, copy the chat or alert widget URL and paste it into a Browser Source.
- KickBot has a widget library. For its chat overlay the developer recommends an 800×600 source and changing font size inside the widget rather than stretching it in OBS, which blurs the text.
- TikFinity is built for TikTok LIVE. As of November 2026 we couldn't find official Kick support, so use the tools above for Kick.
None of these services needs your Kick password: they connect through authorization on their site or a moderator code.
How to show chat on a vertical stream
- If you run a vertical version of your stream in parallel (a 1080×1920 canvas, for example with the Aitum Vertical plugin), make the chat 900–1000 pixels wide and 500–700 tall.
- Place it in the middle of the frame: the bottom 20% of the screen is often covered by buttons in mobile players.
- Increase the font with CSS, for example * { font-size: 28px !important; }. Small text is unreadable on a phone.
- The KICK – Go Live app for phone streaming has no overlay tools, and per Kick's help center, chat there is read-only for the streamer.
Why Kick chat isn't showing in OBS
- The name in the link is wrong: compare it with your channel URL.
- The source is stuck: click "Refresh cache of current page" in its properties.
- Your CSS hid everything: restore the default field and add rules one at a time.
- OBS is outdated: update it and restart.
A lively chat is one of the main reasons viewers stay. Ways to get your audience talking are covered in how to get viewers on Kick, and basic OBS setup is in how to stream on Kick. If your channel is short on followers, the same page also offers Kick followers at $1 per 1000 with a 30-day refill.
