Yes, you can see your watch history on Instagram: since October 2025 the app has a Watch history section for Reels. The path: profile → menu (three lines) → Your activity → Watch history. It lists the clips you watched, with sorting by date and a filter by creator, and you can remove entries you don't need. There is no history for regular posts or Stories, and Instagram still does not show who viewed your profile.
Can you see your watch history on Instagram?
For a long time Instagram did not save watched Reels: refresh the feed by accident and an interesting clip was gone. On October 24, 2025, Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced a new Watch history feature similar to YouTube's. As of November 2026 it sits in the Your activity section.
- What is saved: Reels you watched.
- What is not saved: other people's photos, carousels and Stories.
- Sorting: newest to oldest and vice versa.
- Filters: past week, past month, a custom date range and by creator.
Instagram does not officially say how long the history is kept.
Where to see watch history on Instagram: step by step
- Open your profile (the icon at the bottom right).
- Tap the menu — three lines in the top right corner.
- Choose Your activity.
- Scroll down and open Watch history.
- Sort the list or set a date range and creator to find the clip faster.
If the item is missing, update the app: the feature rolled out gradually, and section names may differ between versions and between iPhone and Android.
How to find a Reel you watched if it isn't in the history
- Likes. Your activity → Likes → filter by the Reels content type.
- Saved. Menu → Saved → the Reels tab.
- Comments. Your activity → Comments, if you commented on the clip.
- Direct messages. If someone sent you the clip, it is still in the chat.
- Search by sound. If you remember the song, find it in the Audio tab and scroll through the clips that use it.
According to reviews, downloading your account data does not include watch history — only the Reels you uploaded yourself.
How to clear your watch history on Instagram
- Open Your activity → Watch history.
- Tap Select, mark the clips and remove them from the history.
- Search history is cleared separately: Search tab → Recent → See all → Clear all.
Removing entries does not change recommendations by itself. If you are tired of your Reels feed, reset your recommendations — see how to reset Instagram recommendations.
Watch history vs "who viewed my profile": what is the difference?
Watch history shows only your own activity. Instagram does not show a list of people who visited your profile, and third-party apps promising one usually ask for your password and put your account at risk. Myths and what you can really find out are covered in can you see who viewed your Instagram profile. You can only see specific viewers of your own Stories, for 48 hours.
If you are a creator: where to see stats for your Reels
A professional account shows insights for your own clips: views, watch time, traffic sources and the share of non-followers. If the numbers are not growing, go through the possible causes in why Reels don't get views. And if you run an account and a new clip needs a first push, you can add Reels views from $0.09 per 1,000 — by link, no password. Instagram's rules are aimed against artificial activity, so use this in moderation and together with quality content.
