The only Reddit marketing that works long-term is being useful to communities: build karma with helpful comments and posts in relevant subreddits, follow each community's rules, keep self-promotion in check, and use Reddit Ads for direct advertising. Reddit is a network of a huge number of topic communities (subreddits), from marketing and coding to tiny hobbies. Posts and comments get upvotes and downvotes, and real votes decide how high a post climbs in a subreddit and whether it reaches wider feeds. Reddit threads show up prominently in Google, so a good thread can keep sending search traffic for a long time.
- Karma reflects your contributions, based on reactions to your posts and comments. Reddit's help pages say it isn't a simple sum of votes, and the exact formula isn't public.
- Subreddits have their own rules and moderators, who can remove posts and ban users from the community without warning.
- Newcomer filters. Many communities block posts from young, low-karma accounts; exact thresholds are usually kept private so spammers can't game them.
- Ranking weighs votes and freshness: a new post that quickly earns reactions from real readers rises above older ones.

How to get karma on Reddit as a new user
- Set up your profile. Verify your email, add an avatar and a short bio — empty accounts look like bots and hit filters more often.
- Start with comments. Answer fresh questions in subreddits where you actually know your stuff. An early, helpful comment in a growing thread earns far more than the hundredth reply in an old one.
- Use Q&A communities such as r/NoStupidQuestions to get your first reactions and learn the tone.
- Post original content. Your own photos, breakdowns and stories beat reposts.
- Don't ask for upvotes or join vote-exchange groups — that's manipulation too, just manual.
How fast karma grows depends on your niche and activity. Instead of chasing a number, check what the subreddits you care about require — it's usually in their rules, wiki or pinned posts.
How to promote a business, blog or product on Reddit
Redditors come for honest discussion and react badly to hidden ads. A playbook that works:
- Find your subreddits through Reddit search, related communities in the sidebar and threads about your competitors.
- Read the rules. Some communities ban links entirely; others have dedicated self-promotion threads or days.
- Mind the ratio. Many moderators still go by the informal 9:1 rule: nine regular contributions for every post about yourself.
- Lead with value: a story, a breakdown, an answer to a common question, or an AMA arranged with the mods.
- Disclose your affiliation and reply to comments in the first hours after posting.

Why buying upvotes and karma doesn't work
- It's explicitly banned. Reddit's rules prohibit content manipulation, including vote manipulation, subscriber fraud and ban evasion.
- Votes don't count. Reddit filters suspicious votes, so bought upvotes may simply not move the post, while the voting accounts — and yours — can be banned. Your domain can end up in the spam filter.
- Real users notice. Even if a post rises, readers spot the ad quickly: downvotes and "this is an ad" comments arrive before customers do.
- Moderators check history. High karma with no meaningful comments looks suspicious and won't get you into communities.
That's why we don't sell Reddit upvotes, karma or followers. The catalog only has Reddit post views and shares: they change the counters in a post's stats but add no votes or karma and do not guarantee reaching Hot or the top of a subreddit. Reddit's rules target any inauthentic activity, so moderators can remove the post and the account can be shadowbanned. The main route here is content, real participation and official ads.
Mistakes that get you banned on Reddit
- Posting the same link across dozens of subreddits.
- Asking for votes, vote swapping, or using a second account to upvote yourself.
- Ignoring subreddit rules and moderator warnings.
- Advertising without disclosing that you represent the brand.
- Creating a new account after a ban — that's ban evasion, which leads to site-wide bans.
