To create a YouTube channel, all you need is a Google account: sign in at youtube.com, click your profile picture → "Create a channel", then set a name and a handle (@name). On a phone, do the same in the YouTube app from the "You" tab. Then verify your phone number — without it you can't upload videos longer than 15 minutes, add custom thumbnails or go live.
What do you need to create a YouTube channel?
There's no separate YouTube sign-up: a channel lives inside a Google account. Prepare:
- A Google account with 2-Step Verification — it protects against hijacking and is required for the Partner Program.
- A phone number to verify the channel.
- A name and handle — your address, youtube.com/@name, ideally without random digits.
- A picture and banner. Picture: 800×800 px. Banner: 2048×1152 px, with text inside the central 1235×338 px safe area or it gets cropped on phones.
How to create a YouTube channel on a computer
- Go to youtube.com and sign in.
- Click your profile picture in the top-right corner → "Create a channel".
- Enter a name, check the handle, upload a photo (or do it later).
- Click "Create channel". Manage it in YouTube Studio: studio.youtube.com.
A second channel is created via "Settings" → "Add or manage your channel(s)". YouTube Help lists this as an advanced feature, so it may be unavailable on a brand-new account.
An empty channel with zero subscribers converts casual viewers worse. You can add a starter base on our YouTube subscribers page: from $20 per 1,000, up to 30 a day, 30-day guarantee, no password. To be clear: these subscribers don't count toward YouTube Partner Program thresholds — it's social proof, not a substitute for content.
How to create a YouTube channel on your phone
- Open the YouTube app and sign in.
- Tap the "You" tab → "Create a channel".
- Enter a name and handle, add a photo → "Create channel".
- Install the YouTube Studio app for analytics, comments and monetization.
Personal channel or Brand Account: which to choose?
- Brand Account — add owners and managers without sharing your email password; easier to hand over to a company; the name needn't match yours.
- Personal channel — simpler for a solo creator, but access to it effectively means access to your whole Google account.
Give editors or SMM specialists access in YouTube Studio: "Settings" → "Permissions" (Manager, Editor, Viewer roles). Never share your password.
How to set up your channel: picture, banner, description, links
Everything is in YouTube Studio → "Customization":
- Profile: name, handle and a description of up to 1,000 characters. Open with what the channel is about and how often you upload. Keywords help search — see our guide to YouTube SEO.
- Branding: picture, banner and a 150×150 px watermark that shows over videos and works as a subscribe button.
- Home tab: a trailer for new viewers, playlists, links to your website and Telegram.
Then plan your first 10 videos — format and schedule are covered in how to run a YouTube channel.
How to verify your account and unlock every feature
Check your status in YouTube Studio: "Settings" → "Channel" → "Feature eligibility". According to YouTube Help:
- Standard — immediately: uploading videos and Shorts, playlists, posts (with daily limits).
- Intermediate — after phone verification: videos over 15 minutes, custom thumbnails, live streaming from a computer, podcasts.
- Advanced — with clean channel history or after ID or video verification: clickable links in descriptions, pinned comments, chapters, thumbnail A/B tests, applying for monetization.
So your first uploads don't start from zero, you can add views and likes on the YouTube promotion page, from $0.95 per 1,000, no password needed. Once the channel grows, the next step is the YouTube Partner Program.
